Dorothy Ewing

Dorothy Ewing, affectionately known as Mamaw, age 92 of Buford, GA passed away September 5, 2012.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Ewing; parents, Charles K. and Liberty E. Joyner; siblings, Charles, Henry, Joe, Elizabeth Phillips, Mary Homer, Beatrice Nagle, Georgiana Stephensen, Evelyn DeOre; daughter, Mary Carolyn Peele; grandson, Chris Myles; and her children’s father, Dalma Ray Peele.  She is survived by her daughters, Dorothy Peele Wells of Buford, Carolyn Peele Davis of Oxford, MS, Beatrice Peele Dahmer of Atlanta; brother, Benjamin Joyner of Picayune, MS; grandchildren, Terry Myles Sapp of Gainesville, Joe Charles Myles, III of Buford, Samantha Weathersbee and Sarah Davis Barham both of Oxford, MS, Thomas Matthew Eldridge of Phenix City, AL; great grandchildren, Robert Myles Irwin of Gainesville, Lindsey Taylor Sapp of Atlanta, Kiersten Leigh Sapp of Gainesville, Jeremiah Davis Weathersbee and Mary Carolyn Weathersbee both of Oxford, MS, Kelly Michelle Myles of Atlanta, Justin Edward Myles of Sandy Springs, Joseph Charles Myles of Valdosta, Hallie Nicole Eldridge of Phenix City, AL; great great grandchildren, Carlie Elizabeth James Irwin and Robert Myles Irwin, II both of Gainesville.  She adored Jim Sapp of Gainesville, Woody Dahmer of Atlanta, Sam Davis, Jeremy Weathersbee and Greg Barham all of Oxford, MS who were brought into the family by marriage and whom she loved as her own.

Mrs. Ewing, was born in the Panama Canal Zone and attended Balboa High School.  She lived in Princeton, NC, Pensacola, FL and settled in Pascagoula, MS where she reared her children and owned Peele Drug Company.  In her final years she lived in Georgia.  She was a member of Fraternal Order of Eastern Star and enjoyed cooking, sewing, crocheting, ceramics, painting and traveling.  She was the family genealogist.  She had the heart of a teacher passing on many skills to her children and friends.  She was particularly proud of her students in her senior years who learned computer skills and ceramics from her.  Even though Dorothy was quite ill this past year, she visited Panama in March.  She lived a full and happy life.

A Funeral Service Celebrating the Life of Dorothy Ewing will be held Saturday, September 8, at 2:00 p.m. at Tom M. Wages Snellville Chapel with The Rev. Calvin Haney officiating.  Interment will be held at Eternal Hills Memory Gardens.  The family will receive friends Saturday from 12 noon until service time, at the funeral home.  Those desiring may make donations to the American Heart Association, American Lung Association or Piedmont Hospital Cardiac Fuqua Heart Center, in her memory.  Condolences may be viewed or sent to www.wagesfuneralhome.com.
