Major William C. Meeks, (R) of The Salvation Army, age 69, of Snellville, GA, was “Promoted to Glory” on Tuesday, November 20, 2012, after a more than 3 years of battle with health issues. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 45 years, Major Darlene Delgado Meeks, (R); their three sons, two daughters-in-law, and three grandchildren: Jonathan Alan Meeks (Kristen) and their daughter, Katelynne Abbie all of Sykesville, MD; David Elliott Meeks of Atlanta, GA; and Daniel Vincent Meeks (Sunshine) and their daughters, Ana Stezia and Dakota Syne, all of Snellville, GA; mother, Josephine Wetmore Meeks, sister, Doreen Meeks-Hewes (Ken) and their son, Winston Charles all of Richardson, TX; brother-in-law, Ben Delgado of Branson, FL, sisters-in-law, Vicki Paez (Carlos) of Miami, FL, and Leann Griesemer (Russ) of Miami Springs, FL; niece, nephew, and a host of many friends.
Born in Miami, FL, on November 9, 1943, he graduated from Miami Edison High School in 1963, where he was a member of Future Farmers of America. He grew up attending the Salvation Army Corps (Church) Miami Citadel Corps in Miami, FL; and graduated from The Salvation Army College for Officers Training(Seminary), as a Cadet of the Lightbringers Session, Commissioned in June 11, 1972. He married the love of his life and soulmate, Major Darlene Delgado Meeks, on April 7, 1967. They had numerous appointments in North and South Carolina, Texas, Georgia, Maryland and West Virginia Divisions before retiring in July 2000. He loved photography and was known as “The Corps Photographer” at the Lawrenceville Corps because of all the pictures he took. He enjoyed carpentry and was a handyman. He was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He will be greatly missed by all that knew this wonderful Soldier’s Devotion to His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
The service celebrating the life of Major William C. Meeks will be held Monday, November 26, 2012 at 11:00 a.m., at The Salvation Army Lawrenceville Corps, 3455 Sugarloaf Parkway, Lawrenceville, GA, 30044 , with Captain Andrew Miller, III presiding and Lt. Colonel Danny Morrow speaking, along with friends and relatives telling the story of this soldier. A private interment will be held on Tuesday at Westview Cemetery, Atlanta, GA., next to his fellow soldiers of The Salvation Army. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 25, 2012, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Tom M. Wages Lawrenceville Chapel, and November 26 at the Lawrenceville Corps from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be mailed to The Lawrenceville Corps-Social Services in memory of Major William C.
